BIMB Mobile is designed with robust security features to protect our customers’ sensitive information. One critical security measure we have implemented is not supporting jailbroken or rooted devices. Additionally, our app supports operating system versions higher than those listed in the table below.

What you can do

If you have a jailbroken or rooted device or a device running an unsupported operating system, we recommend the following steps:

  1. Restore your device to factory settings

If your device is jailbroken or rooted, consider restoring it to its factory settings. This will remove any unauthorized changes and restore the original security features. Please note that restoring your device will erase all data, so ensure you back up your information before proceeding.

  1. Upgrade your operating system

If your device is running an older operating system, check if an update is available. Upgrading to the latest operating system version can provide you with enhanced security features and compatibility with our app.

  1. Switch off developer settings or USB debugging

To check your device settings on an Android device, open the Settings app, usually represented by a gear icon. Scroll down and look for Developer options. If this option is not visible, it might not be enabled; this is common for most users. If it is visible, tap on it and ensure that USB debugging is toggled off. If Developer options are enabled and not needed, you can turn them off entirely by switching off the toggle at the top of the Developer options menu. This ensures your device is secure and not set up for unintended development access.

  1. Consider upgrading your device

If your current device cannot be updated to a supported operating system version, you may need to consider upgrading to a newer device. This will not only ensure compatibility with our app but also provide you with a more secure and efficient mobile banking experience.

Why we don’t support jailbroken or rooted Devices

  1. Security risks

Jailbreaking (iOS) or rooting (Android) refers to the process of removing software restrictions imposed by the operating system. While this may allow users more control over their devices, it also makes the device more vulnerable to security threats. Jailbroken or rooted devices can bypass important security features, making them more susceptible to malware, unauthorized access, and data breaches. For a banking app, these risks are unacceptable, as they can compromise the integrity and confidentiality of users’ financial information.

  1. Compromised data integrity

On jailbroken or rooted devices, standard security protocols and updates may not function correctly. This can lead to compromised data integrity, where the data stored on or transmitted from the device may be altered or intercepted. This is particularly concerning for banking apps, which handle highly sensitive financial data that must remain secure and unaltered.

  1. Incompatibility with security features

BIMB Mobile includes advanced security features such as encryption, secure authentication, and fraud detection. These features rely on the standard operating system environment to function correctly. On jailbroken or rooted devices, these security features may not work as intended, leaving the app and its users exposed to potential threats.

Why we don’t support older operating systems

BIMB does not support older versions of Android (10 and below) or iOS (12 and below)
  1. Lack of security updates

Devices running older versions of Android (10 and below) or iOS (12 and below) no longer receive regular security updates from their respective operating system providers. Without these updates, these devices become increasingly vulnerable to new security threats and exploits. Supporting such devices would compromise the security of our app and, consequently, the safety of our users’ financial data.

  1. Incompatibility with new features

As technology evolves, new security features and protocols are introduced to enhance the safety of digital transactions. Older operating systems may not support these new features, limiting the app’s ability to provide a secure and efficient banking experience.

Conclusion

The security and safety of our users’ financial information are our top priorities. By not supporting jailbroken or rooted devices and older operating systems, we aim to provide a secure banking environment for all our customers. We understand that these restrictions may be inconvenient for some users, but they are necessary to protect your data and ensure the integrity of our banking services. If you have any questions or need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact our customer support team.
